Zagreb is the capital of Croatia, a Central European city with a rich
history, tradition and culture, a city that celebrated the 900th anniversary
of the first mention of its name in writing and the establishment of the
Zagreb Bishopic two years ago. Also, Zagreb is the Sporting Centre of Croatia
and a city of successful competitors and sports enthusiasts.
Hence, it is understandable that we look forward to every occasion to
host competitors and sports enthusiasts from all over the world. We are
especially proud that Zagreb has the opportunity to host the 2000 FISA World
Junior & Senior non-Olympic Rowing Championships. There is no doubt that
the Croatian Rowing Federation, as in many other situations up until now,
will organise this competition in line with international standards and that
it will do its best to ensure our guests a pleasant stay in our town. The
town of Zagreb will provide complete material and logistic support.
The beautiful rowing facilities at the Jarun Sports and Recreation
Centre have already hosted numerous European and international competitions.
The Centre provides excellent conditions for such competitions and a great
atmosphere too. We are sure that the young rowers competing for medals will
be able to show their talents and skills here.
When Zagreb applied to host these championships, the goal was to
popularise the sport of rowing in our city, and we believe this competition
will encourage young people to start practising this beautiful sport.
We hope that all the young rowers achieve excellent results in this competition,
and we would also like to forward a message to all rowing enthusiasts,
competitors and sports fans all over the world that we are looking forward to
meeting them in Zagreb in 2000.
wellcome,
Marina Matulovic Dropulic The Mayor
